Sonal Kohli is a writer. She grew up in Delhi and now lives in Washington, D.C.
She earned her MA in Prose Fiction at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, England. She holds a BA in Economics from Shri Ram College of Commerce at Delhi University. She was a recipient of the Bianca Pancoat Patton Fellowship at Sangam House. Her stories have been shortlisted for the Bristol Short Story Prize 2019 and Fish Short Story Prize 2014. Her work has appeared in Blackbird–where it was included in the journal’s Introductions Reading Loop section that features new writers of promise–as well as Monkeybicycle, The Caravan, Unthology 7 and elsewhere.
Sonal recently completed her book of interconnected stories that follows three generations of a post-partition immigrant family in Delhi, its servants, tutors, cousins and lovers, their loneliness, aspirations and small-scale industrial ambitions.
